Which is easier to defend, Voting your Constituency or Voting your Conscience?
Has anyone else noticed the trend in the RepubliCON party? Moderates are being Purged! Without any real reason other than the fact that they are part of Washington Elite Establishment and out of touch. But the problem with that is the last two years ALL RepubliCONs have Voted in Lock Step, CONservatives and Moderates alike by and large have all walked to the beat of Boehner and Mcconnell. So why the frustration on the Far Right with Moderate RepubliCONs?
In the Democratic Party we have a totally different dynamic, Moderate to CONservative Democrats that have Bucked the Party time and time again are being defended by the Democratic Party not purged like the RepubliCONs are doing to it's Moderates!
Now during the Health Care Saga I bashed many Moderate/CONservative Democrats for not supporting and Voting for the Health Care Bill there excuse was that Most of their Constituency were against the Bill but my question is are those Constituents going to Vote for you because you didn't vote for the Bill or are they going to find other reasons NOT to vote for you?
If the trend is anything similar to what is going on in the RepubliCON Party it probably doesn't even matter at the end of the day people really don't like Moderates. They are Luke Warm and Wishy Washy! All to often they can't be trusted on either side of the aisle! Conservatives don't like them neither do Progressives/Liberals! In my opinion it is much easier to defend voting your Conscience than it is voting your Constituency, at least you will be able to say that in the end you did what you thought was right and didn't go in what ever direction the wind was blowing!

Good post.
I think you're right about this, but I don't see most elected officials operating this way. They learn too quickly to make compromises, a slippery slope that leads to a willingness to rationalize voting for almost anything.
