Tea Party leader: "We're not on the fringe!"

Methinks he doth protest too much:

“One of the biggest problems the Tea Party is facing right now is messaging. The Tea Party is not on the fringe; the Tea Party is on the right side of the spectrum but we're not on the fringe,” said Tea Party member Judson Phillips.

Riiight. So I guess limiting the right to vote to only property owners is also not fringe-worthy:

The Founding Fathers originally said, they put certain restrictions on who gets the right to vote. It wasn't you were just a citizen and you got to vote. Some of the restrictions, you know, you obviously would not think about today. But one of those was you had to be a property owner. And that makes a lot of sense, because if you're a property owner you actually have a vested stake in the community. If you're not a property owner, you know, I'm sorry but property owners have a little bit more of a vested interest in the community than non-property owners.

If we lived in pre-Revolution North Carolina in the late 17th and early 18th Centuries, that might not be considered a "fringe" position. But we don't, so it is. Very.

The Tea Partyist

have drunk too much of their own tea. Their membership is wavering as more and more people come to their senses and realize that they have been had. Thank goodness, otherwise the ultra-rich that couldn't get elected, like the Koch brothers, Dick Armey (re-elected in his case) and all the rest of those a-holes would be enacting more laws like this.

As usual, the media doesn't press them for specifics on how...

we will solve our problems, but eventually they will have to actually have some ideas. I'll bet everyone will be thrilled when they list their Herbert Hoover fixes to our economy.

The media won't even press them on obvious stuff

like this bit about 18th Century voting rights.

It's not as if non-property owners were the only ones excluded from voting in 1788. There were a few other minor groups - women, minorities, people under 21... would the Tea Party advocate excluding those groups, too?

Why doesn't the media jump on obvious stuff like this?

New survey - Tea Party less popular than atheists.

Really! Check this story out today.
