From Tim Kaine to DNC Members
Dear Member --
We had a tough choice to make this year. In deciding which city should host the 2012 Democratic National Convention, we were presented with strong cases by four of America's great communities. Today, I'm excited to announce that we have made our decision.
On the week of September 3rd, 2012, Charlotte, North Carolina will host the 46th Democratic National Convention.
This process offered some great choices. There were many cities eager for the opportunity to host our convention, and we are thankful for their participation throughout the year. The bid process was thorough. Our Technical Advisory Group conducted extensive site visits, and our allies and political leaders offered lots of important input.
After reviewing feedback from all these individuals, I am confident that Charlotte is an ideal location.
I want to congratulate the people of Charlotte, their mayor, Anthony Foxx, Senator Kay Hagan, Governor Bev Perdue, and every other leader who helped to put together this winning bid. I am looking forward to working with all of them to ensure that the next Democratic National Convention is one that will demonstrate the best of our party and our nation's political process.
In less than two years, I look forward to coming together with you to re-nominate President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden for a second term -- and to help propel them to victory in November 2012.
We’ll keep you updated as we move forward in this exciting process.
Sincerely,
Governor Tim Kaine
Chairman

Great news!
It's good for a lot of reasons, not the least being it will save our (NC) delegates a lot of money in travel and (for some) lodging costs.
Watch Mayor Foxx in press conference at one o'clock!
TWC News Carolina 14 says it will broadcast a news conference with Foxx at at 1PM
The news has already received National Media attention as well as a report by Charlotte Observer reporter Jim Morrill. CNN also carried the story after the story first broke in an email from First Lady Michelle Obama to her supporters.
Mayor Foxx, a Democrat, said in a statement, "We have an unmatched opportunity to show the world what a beautiful, energetic, innovative and diverse city we are building in Charlotte."

I am opening up bidding for my guest room, highest bid gets it
What about breakfast?
And I'm not talking about some pseudo-continental thing with a choice of a rubber bagle or a couple of slices of toasted day-old bread. We're talking some sort of a pork product, some scrambled eggs, and maybe some heart-stopping gravy for the biscuits I almost forgot to mention.
:)
wife is a yankee
forget about any sort of decent southern breakfast, my wife is from so far north in NY the closest major airport is Montreal.
Bummer ;/
Actually, I spent a long weekend in Burlington, Vermont a few years ago (rode the bus back and forth to the F-1 race in Montreal because I couldn't find a hotel room in Quebec). It took some looking around, but I found a diner in downtown Burlington that had it all, including the grits. I was duly impressed.
Why is it that South Carolina
Why is it that South Carolina gets everything? ;>)
I'm a moderate Democrat.
Speaking of South Carolina
I seem to recall that the last time a national party convention was held in either of the Carolinas, it was in South Carolina. In Charleston, I think, during the Civil War period or just leading up the war.
And what is SC always gets? I am from there and grew up envying those in NC for their progessive leaders like Gov. Terry Sanford.
I learned about Sanford as a youngster. My mom taught school in a town just across the state line in NC: in ,Tabor City.

"And what is SC always gets?"
"And what is SC always gets?" Just a joke implying that Charlotte is in SC not NC. You know the whole nobody in the rest of NC likes them and they don't like anybody in the rest of NC. Oh and SC has fireworks, and South of the Border, and the
lottery.I'm a moderate Democrat.
Don't forget about the people who got us here
Please don't forget about the people who got us here. One the things that really bugged me about 2008 was that people who only come out every four years were able to become delegates and got prime passes to the convention.
I know this is a prime opportunity to engage new volunteers for the party but we need to reward the people who have been working in the trenches for years.
