My version of reality concerning the SEC meeting in Greensboro
Submitted by persondem on Mon, 05/14/2012 - 10:58pmThe hysteria from some posters on BlueNC over David Parker’s reinstatement as NCDP Chair borders on the comical. I do not see why the extreme language on both sides of this issue is at all necessary. Referring to elected officials as “Royals” is just as extreme as “The Party’s over” (meaning the NCDP).
Primary help please concerning Ag and Labor!
Submitted by persondem on Wed, 04/25/2012 - 7:40pm Ok folks, anyone out there have any favorites in the primary races for Ag and Labor? It would also be nice if you could mention why you support a particular candidate.
Other than names and a few basics, I don't know much about these candidates.
Thank you
An effort to counter denier falsehoods .. and you get to play!! (I hope)
Submitted by persondem on Wed, 02/29/2012 - 10:49pmI'll keep this short. I found an excellent article on RealClearPolitics from the L.A. Times today concerning global warming. It contains numerous links to back up its clearly stated assertions. Some salient quotes:
.... from the dawn of human civilization until the 19th century, the concentration was about 275 parts per million, and that many scientists believe 350 parts per million is a sort of tipping point: Irreversible impacts and feedback loops start to kick in.
... as of January, the Earth's atmosphere contained 393 parts per million of carbon dioxide. And rising.
Any hope for a Dem. filing for candidacy in the 13th Cong. district?
Submitted by persondem on Fri, 02/24/2012 - 9:36amI just checked the state BoE website and as yet no Dems have filed in the 13th. This worries me. Bad enough we might give seats to the R's in the General Assembly, but to give away a seat in Congress is beyond painful.
Anyone know if someone is about to step up to take on the R's and Gerry(mander)? I have had Brad Miller and, before him, Eva Clayton as my Representatives in D.C., and I sure don't want to give up the 13th without a fight.
Ideas?
What resolutions would you like to see the NCDP approve this year?
Submitted by persondem on Thu, 02/23/2012 - 10:45pmMarch 6, 2012 is the day for Democrats to meet and organize their local precincts. As you may know, the resolution process begins at the precinct level. Some ways do exist for getting resolutions to the floor of the state convention without beginning at a precinct meeting, but the proper way is to start a resolution at the precinct level, move through the county and district conventions and then to the state convention.
So, whether or not you attend your precinct meeting, what resolution(s) would you like to see the NCDP concern itself with this year?
Wilkins and Crawford to contest 2nd District House seat
Submitted by persondem on Sun, 02/12/2012 - 10:43pm State Rep. Winkie Wilkins announced Friday that "There will be no retirement"; he will run for the newly created house seat that now includes all of Person County and most of Granville County. A recent poll showed that Wilkins has a good chance of knocking off Crawford, who irritated democrats by siding with House republicans in matters of budget and veto overrides. It would seem that Wilkins and Crawford will try to keep the contest as cordial as possible as they met to discuss their plans prior to publicaly throwing their hats into the 2nd District's ring.
One of the "Gang of Five" just might get bounced from the House. Good. Wilkins will be a big improvement over Crawford. He's a good man and a hard working public servant.
When is a meeting not a meeting?
Submitted by persondem on Sun, 01/29/2012 - 5:49pmI spent most of Saturday afternoon sitting on a little chair in a conference room of the Marriott Hotel in Greensboro. It was beautiful afternoon, especially for January, but I didn't mind as I was in that conference room to do the business of the North Carolina Democratic Party. I thought there was to be a meeting of the State Executive Committee; for the most part I was mistaken.
School calendars get squeezed, and educators too.
Submitted by persondem on Wed, 01/11/2012 - 8:19pmThe lives of educators are getting more difficult, a-gain. The program of death by a thousand cuts undertaken by the NC General Assembly (GA) continues unabated. The latest, and not well known, cut involves the increasing difficulty of creating a legal school schedule. You, gentle reader, might not recall that school calendars are not created with the principle goal of educating young minds, but rather to maximize the profits of the coastal tourist industry.
A most amazing indication that, yes indeed, the republican candidates for Prez are heading way too far right.
Submitted by persondem on Tue, 10/25/2011 - 8:38pmPat Robertson advises the republican presidential candidates to "take the extremism down a notch".
This could one of the signs of the apocalypse. Anyone seem a pale rider or 4 guys on horseback?
